OTAKI NOTES.
The annual general meeting of the Otaki Young Men's Club was held 'on' Friday evening,.the.Eev. C. Smith presiding. The balance-sheet showed a small credit, and to ensure a better balance for the future the subscription was raised to ss. Mr. R. Giles was appointed secretary, Mr. T. Dorset, treasurer, and Messrs. M'Call, Lanchester, Taylor, Kilmister, and W. Cook, a committee;
The monthly sitting of the S.M. Court was held on Friday, Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., presiding. Bishop Harvey, charged with creating a disturbance at a concert while under the, influence of liquor, was fined 55., and costs 14s. For unlawfully catching trout, by means of. explosives, a lhan named Fisher was fined in all (with costs), ,£7 13s. Charles Johnston, charged with the theft of a horse, and also with, the , theft of a gig and harness, was committed for trial. Judgment for iC6G lGs Sd. .was given in the case of Kirk and "Wilson v. Lawlor for' professional services rendered. - ■
The quarterly ■ sitting of ■ the Licensing Bench was also-held on Friday. A transfer from Frank Rhodes to John. Berriman (Levin -Hotel) was granted. There months' leave of absence was granted to W. H. Hiijgins (Wereroa Hotel), on account of ill-health. John Johnston (Family Hotel),. complained. of improvements required by the Bench not .being effected, and was informed that it was his duty to see to the matter. An application for transfer from T. Sowman to — Callighan was granted, subject to an affidavit being iled, . ■ . :
