At the School of Engineering, in connection with Canterbury College, Christchurch, which reopens on March 14, provision is now made for the training of engineers in every branch of the profession. Theoretical instruction by means of. lectures and practical instruction in the laboratories are given in steam and gasengine engineering, hydnX'lic, constructive, marine, railway, and electrical engineering, and in surveying. In this last subject Mr. W. F. Robinson, authorised surveyor, has recently been appointed lecturer, and special attention is now being paid to the training of civil engineers and surveyors. A now and well-equipped hydraulic laboratory has been added to the buildings, and will be opened during the present session. There are complete courses (jualifying for the degrees of the University of New Zealand, courses of less diiliculty for the Assoeiateship of the School (which aro eminently suitable for young men taking up engineering work in the Dominion), and evening courses for those desirous of obtaining a third marine engineer's certificate, and for apprentices and others engaged ui all branches of engineering. The university courses of the school in engineering aro, with those of the M'Qill Uuiverversity, the only courscs outside England officially recognised by tlie Institution of Civil Engineers. A liberal scheme of scholarships has been instituted by the Board of Governors, details of which may be obtainod on application*
