A conference of delegates from the principal centres of the St. John Ambulanco Association in New Zealand will be held in Christchurch on March 2G. All oenties have signified. their intention of' sending representatives. To date no renuts have been received from outside centres, but Christchurch Centre will, bring forward tlie following(1); Adoption of uniform rules and regulations governing centres and sub-centres in : tlw; Dominion 01 New Zealand and a uniform policy regarding the formation of subcentres; (2) educating of girls in first-. a , ■ u°me nursing in schools nnd in the time between leaving school and taking up household duties, such education to be according to agreement with the New Zealand Government; (3) the advisability of coming to an agreement ew , Zealand branch of tha British Medical Association in reference , to lecturers' fees, failing an settlement an appeal to be made to St John s Gate with an .ultimate decision to appoint lay lecturers without remuneration; (4) the necessity of doselj adhering to the Home regulations governing the issue of certificates of proncieacy for masters and mates of mercantile rna* rine and the' charging of uniform fees? (5) that uniform equipment be' adopted throughout, the Dominion, standards and patterns to be, definitely decided .upans the necessity of a Government gab. sidy being paid annually to each of tha centres to enable them, to more- effect®ally carry on their work; (7) consider*, tion of the future of the association in tlie Dominion • and directions in which can extend its ;svork; (8) the necessity; 01 soudly supporting the commissionfir in charge of the. Nelson, March 4, The Easing Sun Hotel, on the Wahnea Eoad, was totally' destroyed by fire at. 8 o'clock this morning.. It was a wooden,, building. The lioensee,. Paul Mitchell,. and his family, had a narrow escapa. The staircase was on .fire, and thoy had ' to descend from the windows by the firoescape ropes. ; The building was owned by Dodson and Sons, brewers, and waa insured for i! 450 in the Standard ■ office. The furniture and stock were insured fos £300 in the Northern' Union office.
