Wellington people hove been, giving various little entertainments during the past .week to the'officers', of the coble .ship Patrol, .which put in here for cool last week, and lenves again to-day. Their engagements have included a'tennis parly on' Wednesday afternoon, a bridge party the same night, and a dance at Kelbiirne last evening;' - while' on 'Saturday 'the officers •of the' ship .gave' a" dance on board, and'a'tea this week. . ilost important to the people.of these islands', are the men.'who preserve our communication with- the outside world;' by keeping the cable, in repair, and most interesting is it to sec over their ship, its'apparatus 'for ' repairs. As it.was,the twenty-fifth annual contention, between 60 and 70 delegates were present from all. parts ■of the. T.W.C.A. The' Chinese Consul, Mr. Hwang, is giving a:lecture.in'St. John's.Schoolroom on Tuesday on' Social Jyife in China. A large number- of members attended, and the debate on the statement that it was ■" desirable' that' women, should sit in Parliament was continued in'an interesting-manner.'A vote'' was taken, and the motion ■'•'.negatived.. A Students' Evening. On Wednesday. Mrs. Eichelbanm entertained, a. large number .of students, and graduate? of: Victoria' College at a most enjoyable evening.' There .was some' de.lightful music during the evening, 'songs being sung by Miss May- Newman, Miss '.Daisy.lsaacs, and Mr. Prousa,' while Miss Webster gave a pianoforte solo.'
