The Prime Minister leaves Auckland this mornrng for Cambridge, where he will attend tho agricultural show. Hs may afterwards visit To Aroha and Rotorua.—Press Association.

. The Hon. .Tas. Carroll, Native Minister, will leave Auckland for Wellington, via Rotorua and Taupo, this morning.

The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, who went down to Christchurch on Wednesday night, expects to return to Wellington on Sunday.

The Rev. J. D. MTTenzie, 8.D., recently appointed pastor of St. Paul's ' Presbyterian Church, Wanganui, was tendered a welcome "social" last night in the Drill Hall, which held a large audience; During the evening, Mr. M'Kenzie was presented with a bicycle, and ■ Mrs. M'Kenzie was given a -valuable couch.— Press Association. .

Mr. Robert. Stone Floranco has been appointed District Land Registrar, Registrar of Deeds, and Examiner of Titles, for the Marlborough District. Mr. Joseph G. L. Hewitt has been appointed to a similar position for the Westland district.

Mr. P. G. Kirobell, manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of Australasia, nas received notice of promotion to Hawera, where he will have charge of the local branch and .several agencies.

On Wednesday evening at the Empire Hotel, Mastertdu, about fifty friends 'of Mr. Alex. head buyer in NorthWairarapa for the Gear Meat Company, Ltd., met to bid him farewell and to make a small presentation on the eve' of his departure ou a tour through Eng : land and Scotland. Mr. C. A. Pownall presided, and the gathering was a representative one, testifying to the popularity of the guest of the evening, who has been a resident of the district for the past thirty years. In handing a well-filled purse of sovereigns to Mr. Resiae, Mr. Pownall wished him a pleasant voyage and a safe return to New Zealand.

The Count of Bismarck-Bohlen (Carlsburg), a relative of the late German Chancellor, accompanied by Mr. C. A. Weber (Berlin) arrived in Wellington from-Nelson last night.

' Captain W. J. Eeed, and Captain Alexander Campbell, have been appointed assessors to sit at the inquiry into the touching of the scow Vesper.. Captain Keedsat on the recent Kaipara inquiry and Captain Campbell has had a good deal of experience of vessels similar to tho Vesper. '

A, Press Association 'cablegram from New York, states that, while singing in tho Opera "Otcllo," at the Metropolitan Opera House, Mdlle. Frances Alda was seized with 'pains,. and had to be carried .from the theatre to her hotel.in a fainting condition. An operation for appendicitis was performed at 3. o'clock in the morning. Her condition is described as critical. Mdlle. Alda was better known in Australia as Francie. Adler, having at' one time been concerned inoperatic and pantomime performances, under the management of Mr. J.-C. Williamson. Possessing'a voice with "possibilities," she studied singing under :Marchesi and others, and made, successful appearances in grand opera in. Paris and Nice (in 1904), since which time she haa' steadily advanced in her profession. Sha was engaged' to appear at the Metropolitan Opera House-this season, and in "Otello" was associated with the Czech' baritone Slezak as Otello, and Scotti as lago. Mdlle. Alda comes of operatio stock. She is the daughter of Madame Koonora Simonsen,- the eldest daughter of Martin Simonsen, conductor, violinist, and-proprietor of the Simonsen Opera Company, which toured New Zealand a quarter of a century ago. This relationship also makesher the neice of Madame i ranees Saville, another operatic star of years ago. • ■ '■ : •.'•.- ■ •

The Rev. E. B. Hughes (Bantist) and Mr.. Wni. Challinor (Christadelphian) are gazetted officiating ministers under the Marriage Act.

Mr. Sidney F. Anderson is gazetted an inspector of orchards.

The Colonial Auxiliary Forces longservice medal has been awarded to Major W. J. Strong, of the Otago Division oi the New Zealand Garrison Artillery, and to Captain John Potter, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles.

The funeral-of the late Mr. Alex. Reese took place yesterday (says . our Pahiatua correspondent), settlers from far and near being present. The service was conducted by the Rev. Messrs. Speer (Wesleyan) and Mill (Presbyterian). Wreaths were.forwarded from the Lands Office staff, and telegrams were received from Sir Joseph Ward, Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P., and others,- expressing sympathy. The Land Board was represented by Messrs. Dawson and Ellingham, and the cortege was a large one.

Messrs. Harold Beauchamp and W. Milne have been reappointed directors of the Bank of New: Zealand. Mr. Beauchamp has been a memher (nominated by the Government) since 1899, and chairman for the past three years.

Mr. Mulqueeh, of the Union Company's Suva office, passed through: Wellington by the Navua yesterday, on the way to Westport to spend a holiday. He is accompanied by Mrs. Mulqueen.
