DR, NEWMAN'S DECISION
TTNABLE TO STAND. The reply of Dr. Newman to the deputation which waited upon him last week asking him to forgo his projected' trip to England, and seek re-election to the office of Mayor of the city, was awaited with' considerable interest. Tho following letter,, which states that Dr. Newman cannot see his way to seek re-elec-> tion has been forwarded to Mr. E. A. Wright, M.P., who introduced last week's deputation:—
T)ear Mr. Wright,—ln reply to yourself and tho gentlemen composing the deputation which so. kindly invited me to stand again for the Mayoralty, I would state that my wiio and I have given the matter our most careful consideration. I regret that I must decline the invitation tor reasons many and cogent. I was greatly gratified by my election to the high office of Mayor , of this city. During the year Mrs. Wmanand I have' loyally-to the ■• °V SF °"! r abilities—striven to carry out the duties of our high position..
