YACHTING.
Tlie good fresh squally nor'-wester which raged on Saturday afternoon brouglit out four starters for the secondclass yacht race, which was put off on Anniversary Day. It was decided at' a meeting of the ■ P.N.T.C. that/the first, second, and third yachts nrid .the Taiparq should resail. The following were the. handicaps:— A talanta (scr.), - '■ Wliito Heather (scr.), . Tnipare • (19min.),: arid Nanoya, 22min., '■[ The Nanoya' did not finish. The Atalanta took the lead when tho gun was fired, and was followed .by Taipare and Whito Heather. OIF Evans Bayi it was seen that the Atalnntn was still in the lend, with the White Heather Smin. behind, tho Taiparo having just been overtaken by the White Heather. The same order was kept all round the course, the Atalanta'arriving home (imin. before the White Heather. The Taipare finished at. about-5.30. The race was won' by the Taipare, .with White Heather second, and Atalanta third. ■ . The Atnlanta was sailed by Mr. W. .Tones, and arrived home-in time to win having set her staysail during the race. Hor time was lhr. i7min. 45sec. for.tho course, an excellent performance. All the yachts were reefed down.
