Generally tho , union seek a reduction of from 9 to 13 hours per week, in placo of the present 65 hours voek, a full days' holiday per week in place of half a day as at preseut provided by statute, stud a general all-round increase of wages, specially for porters, kitchenmen, and pantrymen. Scullerymen at present receive 225. Kd. per week, and board and lodging. HOURS OF WORK. An advance copy of the claims of the union, reforring to hours of work for in hotels urges that the hours for all workers in or about any hotel shall be as irador:— No male worker over, the age of 18 .years shall be employed for a longer period than 'iG hjurs i,i any one week. JSio female worker or' yonth under the age of 18 years shall be. employed for a longer period than 52 hours in any ono week. Wo worker shall be employed for a longer period than 10 hours in any one day. No worker shall be employed on any day after a period of 13 hours has elapsed from tho time such worker commenced work on any one day. The above working hours may, with tho consent of the Labour Department, bo extended, but for not longer than three hours in any one week, or for not .longer than 90 hours in any one yea: , : provided, —(a) that no worker - shall' at any time bo required to work after a period of 13 hours has elapsed from the time such worker commenced work in any ono day. (b) That for all work performed during such extended periods every worker shall be paid overtime rates at as much again as ordinary rates of pay, or tho sum of Is. per hour, whichever is the greater. HOLIDAYS. -■'.'"'■ The working hours above prescribed shall be .worked in six.days'only .in each week. One full day's, holiday in every week shall.be allowed to each employee in every hotel.'
