HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. There were present:—The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny), and Councillors Clere, Pearce, lvempthorn'e, Barlow, and. Baldwin. An application for the extension of tho drain to 'his premises in Knight's Road was received from Mr. C. H. Hawk. It was decided to inform the applicant that tho council has no money for surface drainage at present. Permission was given by the Comniisisoner of Crown Lands for carrying the. diversion of Everest's drain through a corner of the Wilford. Settlement. The Post aud Telegraph Department was grauted permission to bring a second lead of metallic cable across the Hutt Bridge for telephone exchaugo purposes, subject to one month's notice of disconnection being given. . . The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board forwarded a copy of the proposed regulations for the re-election of hospital boards, for which the Hutt and Kastbourne Boroughs will jointly elect ■ a member' on March IG. The Taita Cemetery Trustees forwarded a copy of the draft agreement between the council and the trustees. It was decided to refer the agreement to the borough's solicitor for perusal. xVn Alicetown resident wrote complaining of cattle wandering on the nufiiic streets. The town clerk stated that he had referred the letter to the ranger, who considered that the only way to deal with the trouble was for the council to give him full power to proceed in Court in all cases withotit referring eneh case, to the council. There was more stock straying at present than there had been for come time past. Councillor Baldwin considered that drastic measures would have to be taken to keep stock from damaging the footpaths and wandering over the streets. It was decided to give the ranger full power to prosecute where lie considers it necessary. Permission was granted to tho jfiro Brigade to hold a demonstration on the Recreation Ground on March 12. Tho engineer in his report stated that l\vo more water connections had been made, making a total of !i'2H to date. Referring to tarring the footpaths and cycle tracks, the engineer stated that the main road had .been completed from the railway station to the northern end of the borough, and the side streets were ; at, present in hand. The laying of sewers on the Western Hutt Road wou'.d bo completed during tho. coming week. The main was completed through Mrs. Holworthy's property, and good progress was being made with tho work Oil the Fitzherbert, Estate. _. The district fund account showed a debit balauco of £i?2i 17s. Id. Included in the debit balance on the general account are the following sums:—On account of .£IO.OOO loan £m 3s. Sd., and on account of .£52,000 loan (Everest's Creek) j;3; total .ess". 3b. Bd. Loan account , showed a credit balance of J5269 Is. Si.
