On the " arrival of the' brigade'the. flames had secured a finn hold' of the premises, and. four, valuable'horsea were burned to death, two of them, a parr of greys, being valued at over rhe building was gutted. A larg& quantity of harness , was burnt, and of two drays .one was damaged .beyond repair, and. ,thc other severely charged. ' Mr. Hanson's workshop, containing tools, - etc., was destroyed. The contents were uninsured. Those ,of Messrs. Odlin in the ■underneath, part, of .'the building were also without insurance. The .building, which, was owned by Messrs.* Odlin, was insured for' jeiOOnn the Alliance office Mr. Hanson estimates his loss at The fire at Berhampore • was ■ attended by - the ; .Newtown, branch of the brigade. The conflagration •oo •curred in a sis-roomed wooden building occupied and owned by Mr. James Saunders. Before' the flames were'suppressed severe damage was done to ■ the kitchen, scullery, bathroom, and dining-room, while the front portion' of. the' house suffered by heat, smoke, and water.'
