HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A ; meeting of theHutt Borough Councu, held Inst evening, was attended bythe Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny), nnd'Coirn; ciUors Baldwin, Hayes, Auson, Kempthorne,. Cloro,, Slacoskill, and Barlow. All amended opinion regarding loan expendrture was received from Mr. C.P. Skorrdtt, K.C. :Mr;- Skerrettwrote that he had"assumed that Mr. Mestayer's investigations had beon exclusively for the purpose of;ascertaining what amount, of the several items;raised by the loan had been over-expended. He had found, however, that ■Mγ. - Mestayer's report had been necessary both: to enttble works contemplated by the.original.loan to be constructed, and.'for the purpose of ascertaining tho amount which . the borough would require. to raise .over and above tna original loan. Ue would therefore advise the .council that Mr. v Mestayer's charges might be paid either out of ffie 1 } Joan moneys, or out of the additional loan money.i raised to complete the works. . . ■ .
■ Mr. ,M.,W. .Welch, acted. « spokesman for a deputation of Normandalo residents. L™ deputation,, asked that the council should promptly erect a fence along the Normandale Road from the quarry to • the foot or. the hill. Several accidents, they said, -had taken place on this danportion,. which measured only: a few. chains. • • They also " asked that : a gas.'.lamn'.Bhould, replace the kerosene lamp on the road. .The council instructed to ; report regarding, the cost of the improvements asked for. A complaint was made that the railway cross-' ■ing was ■ dangerous to users of the Normandale Road :,The Mayor remarked that-.£lo, had been spent. already on the widening of the crossing, but the council 1 would .co-operate in approaching the Gov- ; ernmentto lessen.tK danger :; The special committee set up to discuss, means, of assisting'residenta to connect .with, the. sewage, system submitted thpir. report.- . They recommended:' (1) I That. any. moneys required- be advanced toownei-s out of the; district fund at 6 , per cent,, interest, for a period of not more, vthan ; fiye; years, provision to • be. made that the-borrower might repay the whole,amount, at. any .time; and (2) that notice be served on, all owners'of pro-' P^';o c D n)H westsidei of the river, within 50 fe«t of the' mains, to connect witnm six months., ' The recommendations were approved by the council. -A' letter -was received from the secretary .of the'"Hntf Fire stating that thevPetone and Lower Huft Fire Bngadeswere considering the question of inviting.', the..vFnitedi; Fire' - Brigades' Association toehold its: 1911: conference and competitions in the'Hutt district, and suggesting: that the- council. 6hould assist by:.allowing• the;use of the Kecreation Ground;for one week,.and by laying another length .of; 3-in. main in the Recreation ■.Ground .from Myrtle.
