MANAWATU-ASsbciATIONI f, , (Dy.Tolecraph.-Spdoial'CorreeDondent.) : ' Palmerston, Jaturay 21. The Mahawatu Eifle Association began itsraeeting at the Hokowhitu range,yesterday morning. Eecord entries were received, including.' representatives • from Op'aki, Wellington,. Taranaki, . Dnanevirke, Hastings, Feilding, Marton, Wanganui, Masterton, Woodville, Nelson, Irevin, Otaki, and Paraparaumii. The general. arrangements are being carried out by Colour-Sergt. E. E. Perrirti Eifloimen; \V. :Bandell, A. Turner, G. Newth,! J. H.; Perrin, while Captain. Mounsey, as secretary,, is .doing good' service.' Staff Sergt.-Major Peaobck nas' charge of the shooting,.Lieut. Batchelor,of the Manawatu Mounted Rifles, is range officer, Sergt. Patterson, of the Mounted Bides,, is trench officer, and the vice-president, Mr.. Hugh Ak«rs;.Y:has charge of the. telephone arrangements. Prominent' shbts present are ex-Champions' ■ Hyde and B. J; ..Ring,, of Opaki, and A. Ballihger, of Wellington. ~The weather conditions'' at the, start of the meeting were first-class —no wind and .light good—the. result be-: ing. some, fine shooting. .Three possibles were put on—two at 500 yards .(Sergt. Bakor,. Wellington, and Biileinari' Lower; Levin, ■■ and. one at 200- yards' (Bifleman Marshall,, Earbri);' -Atr, eleven- o'clock,, however,' .heavy rain' came. on;' and puta stop to- shooting for a time. \ Heavy showers; also fell: during the afternoon; but, when the shooting -ceased for ; the p day, there wa9. every, sign of the weather olearing'up.
