Dr. , Wills, president of.the society, made the presentation. The society has decided to stage Pinero's coincdy "Tho Schoolmistress" at an early date. ..■.■• .. . A collection will be taken up on tho streets of Feilding on Chistmas Ero in aid of the Palmerstou North Hospital. 'Several ladies have kindly promised to act as collectors, and Councillor Harford, tho local representative on the Hospital Board, will be pleased to receive more volunteers in the same cause. SHANNON. Mr. E. B. Stephcnson'is leaving shortly for Komako, where he will build large cattleyards for ■Mγ. C. H. Handlcy. Mr. Stephenson mil bo'away for a month or two. The "Town Hall" (belonging to Mr. W. H. Fitchett) is being demolished this week. Mr. Fitchetthas decided-to build cottages of a modern type on the site. Mr. J. M'Pherson.of this district, is at present on a visit to Auckland. ■"•■■■ Mrs. and—the Misses Dunckley will spend the Christmas holidays at. Woodville. ; Oiving to the increased number of trains, now running,, the, local .railway : station * staff has, been augmented. ... ■ At tho close of the 6ervioe in the Anglican Church on Sunday night; Mr. C. F. Exall was presented with a solid silver inkstand and pen' on behalf of the' congregation. Mr. Exall has been a lay reader for a'number of.'years.-

LEVIN.; . Anniversary services-were;held in tho Levin : Methodist Churoh on Sunday in connection [with the Sunday School. Large congregations, were present both morning and evening, and the children, under the baton of .Mr. J. F. Williams, added to the brightness of the services by their singing. The H«v.. A. B. Chappell, M.A., was the preacher/. On Monday, evening the anniversary celebrations s were concluded, ■ when the Century . Hall • was! quite filled. -The Rev. A. B. Chappell addressed the children, and, Mrs. -Richard Prouse presented/the : prizes, ■ which numbered considerably over'a hundred. Special prizes were awarded to Lance Prouse, Willie Salmons; Willie. Walker, -and Dorothy . Parsons. , A hearty'vote. of. thanks was passed to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Prouse, who for several yearshave borne the cost- of prizes for the scholars. The anniversary was the most successful for many, years.' . ■. . Levin Post -Office has this week' been lighted by gas for the'first time, but tho private box apartment is' still only illuminated by the old ojl lamp. ,•"'-. The laying of the pipes for the high-pres-sure water supply has now been brought as far as Queen Street railway-crossing, and the workmen, are busy putting them down in Cambridge Street. It is expected that Oxford Street will be dealt with after the holidays. The Borough Council has decided to ' obtain an'estimate of the cost of laying a cycle track down tho west side of Cambridge Street.
