« COMPULSORY BOARD. MEN CHALLE*NGE STATUS Or LABOUR MEMBER (By Toleeraph-ProBS Acioclmlon-OoDyrleht.l (Rec December S3, OJi am) Sydnoy, Decomber 22 At tho first sitting of the Compulsoiy Wages Board, appointed uuder tho Industrial Disputes Act to inquire into the coil dispute at Nowcastle, Mr Bowling appeared for the miners, and said he. had been instructed to object to Mr. Patterson sitting on tho Board, on tho ground that ho ,did,not rep'rosent tho Colherv Employees' Federation at all Mr Patterson had taken tho position ■without con suiting the mon, and had betrayed the trust rbposod in him. Mr. Bowling asked for an adjournment to ouablo liis Federation to consider the position in regard to the Board's jurisdiction Judge Hoydon remarked that Mr. Patterson's position on the Board .was unassailable. Tho Board adjourned till January 10. WILL SOUTHERN MINERS RESUME WORK? THE STEIKE CHARGES Sydney, Decomber 22 Mr. W. M. Hughes, leaden, of the Strike Congress, professes not to know whether tho Southern miners intend to follow the examplo of the Western miners and return to'work. He declares that Mr Wade's Industrial Disputes Act Amendment Act having como into operation, it is Mr Wade's business now Of tho charges of inciting a strike made against fifteen members of the Colliery Employees' Association, one has been withdrawn, and tho hearing of tho others has been postponed till the end of December.- ' y •;
