HANDICAP WON BY RESIGN. SOME "SCENES." The December meeting of the - Hutt Park Racing Club was held at the old Hutt raceconrso on Saturday afternoon. Although showers fell in the city, tho weather was fine at the Hutt, and there was a good crowd of spectators at the-meeting. Bookmakers also mustered in. strong force, but as most of the winners wero well hacked, tho fielders did not appear to have much the bost of matters with tne public. The -principal race at tho meeting resulted in a very.easy win for Resign, who, however, failed/ to gain a-place in'the last race when penalised. Lady Paul, who has been successful at the.club's previous -fixtures', won a. double on Saturday.. '• -There'was an interesting scene in the weigh-ing-room after the second race, which was won by Lady Paul from Ora-Pinsont.' After the horses had passed the post, the winner, was turned round • quickly, and after, saluting the judge she passed into the enclosure a long way ahead of the other candidates. Tho owner of Ora Pinsent was. in pursuit, and he stood at the scales as the winning jockey; weighed in. "All right" called the clerk of the scales, and the jockey jumped off tho machine, but Ora Pinsent's owner expressed dissatisfaction, and hegan expostulating in loud terms .with those of the club s officials that Were in range.. Eventually the order was given to "pay the winner" and the "scene" ended,'but the-report of it spread .round tho course, and when Lady Paul won her second' race, the weighing-room was packed with a curious crowd of backers, bookmakers' clerks,-and. jockeys to see the boy weigh in. Burdened with the weight of saddle, lead-bag, ' and rubbers, the jockey pushed his way through to the scales, and .the dial indicated :12st.". 131b. This was the signal for .a' loud chorus of "I told you so." -But there still remained: unbelievers. : Another little incident that caused dissatisfaction occurred in the Christmas Handicap, for which there-were eight starters.', Gold' Gup was withdrawn, ' and Mallowes, who usually rides Gold Cup,. appeared ■ on the jockeys' board as the ridor of .l'ranc.. The latter was one.of the favourites,'but finished absolutely last,.but he was not ridden by Mallowes. Backers of Franc were annoyed at the mistake on tho hoard, but the club's books showed that Mallowes had weighed out correctly to ride Flying Wind. | Results are as follow.— ; MAIDEN, HANDICAP, of 25 sovs'.
