' Some of the Eastbourne Borough .'Councillors/at their, meeting^on Saturday night, became slightly, heated over'a matter connected with the confirmation: of the minutes of the previous meeting. ■< If was explained that a motion to. revise the .valuation of .certain property had'been carried on,'tho casting vote'of the.Mayor, and thatVa-member of the council Unancially interested in the , , property , had voted: on the ! motion. It was afterwards considered that. the.. resolution was not., valid, oiving to ■ the councillor . in question ~haying voted on a matter in which he was financially interested. When the minutes : came up for confirmation, the Mayor (Mr.. J.' Ban , ) ■ proposed to strike out tho record of this resolution. Councillor Wills strongly objected to this course; and moved the'adoption-of the minutes as;they stood. .! - , : ••' .'.-: V ' .'.■: !'. i. . N6; support was forthcoming for Councillor Wills*s. - proposal, and the minutes were icorrected, according to''tho Mayor's proposal,;and confirmed. ,' '-■'. • . ':■ : : ' ' \ Councillor, Wills then repeated his protest. "The motion at,the last meeting was carried," he declared. "The minutes.are' a correct.record of what was done, and we have no , right to alter them."' .; -' ;■ V • ■ . .- •■■■■_'■;■•.' .•!■:■' : ' Councillor Eobertson: "Lef s get on- with, the business. ■ We've had enough twaddle." ■. •Councillor Wills: "It isn't twaddle." ; The' Mayor began "to explain; the position again.. He 'stated that the councillor in question; had voted illegally. ';" :' Councillor' Wills: "Who's to say ho: voted illegally? Not you, until : you're asked." ■ The Mayor: "I wou't 'make ahy further eiplanatiori. ; I declino to be subjected to such interruptions." " ■ . •. ■ Tho matter then dropped, but at a later stage Councillor Wills gave notice of-, motion m ternis of tho resolution which had been .expunged from the minutes. ' " . ■The Town-Clerk was instructed to write to tho Valuer-General stating- that "tho -matter was still unsettled. . ..''-. ....' V. ~
