He aud Christopher Bilhngs were having a ewini, when the latter, learlng a splash, turned ronnd and saw de;eased's hands and arms above tho water, tie went to his assistance, and tho drowning 'nan caught him and pulled him under. A lesperato struggle ensued, Billings eventually managing to free himself and reach the bank in an exhausted condition. Tho body of de:eascd was recovered by liis brother, who only \rnved in Dargavillo yesterday morning wjtn ihe object of paying deceased a visit. WILFUL OR 'ACCIDENTAL? 1 , Ounedln, December 11. At an inquest concerning the death' of 3amuel M'Donald Alexander, whoso body was found ia the harbour yesterday, an open verlict was returned, the coroner stating there ivas not sufficient evidence, to show whether the drowning was wilful or accidental. BODY FOUND. L t j . - Wanganul, December 12. The body of Edward Hackett, who wa; drowned in the river at midnight on Thurs day, waa found on Saturday afternoon. .
