ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
■ ' SEVERELY SCALDED. On Saturday morning, a man natiwd W. Johnson, employed at the Gear Company's manure works, Petone, mot with a painful ' iccident. Ho was mixing boiling water with cold, whon the hose through which the boihiSg water was running flow out of his hand and he was severely scalded. After receiving medical attention, ho was removed to his home. A RAILWAY FATALITY. , At about 8 o'clock on Saturday morning, an accident, which-was attended by fatal con- ' sequences, occurred at Petone. As the 7.40 a.m. train from Wellington was drawing into the .station, an old age pensioner named Ednin Cox ondoavoured to cross the lino just by the Grand National Hotel. As the ongmo drew near to the old man tho driver saw tho danger, and blow the locomotive's whistle four ~ time?, at the same time applyiug the brakes. / 'i'ho train was pulled up quickly, but not before the; old man had been knocked oi? tho , line by the engine. Cox was Ukon to the railway station, and attended to by Dr. Hardang, who ordered his romoval to the hospital.
