' ;The proposed amalgamation of Miramar Borongh with Greater Wellington wa6 diaoussed in committee,- at laat : night's meeting of: the Mirawar Borough Council, when. a report propared by tho borough engineer (Mr. Bennett) was latf on the,table. ~ . ■■■•..■ . . Before the reporters retired, tho Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford) stated that ho had'noticed several paragraphs iai tho newspapers in reforoncp to the proposed amalgamation, but ho had not given the information to: the press or to nnyone else. Ho did not know • who: had given the information, but: that did not matter now. It was quite correct :.tlmt, at its Inst meeting, the council had instructed the town clork to prepare a report on the question,. but ratepayers need not feel afraid one way or tho other. The council was. not going to hasten things at present. They were-only going into the question to see if amalgamation would be a good.thing or a bad thing, and betforo anything was dono ratepayers could bd euro'■,that the matter: v;ould bo disenssed in .open-coun-cil, and thatrthoy would bo fully informed what" the propo'snJs .of the council arc.
