In tho State Assembly the Treasurer, Mr. Hawthorn, delivered tho Budget, which shows a small surplus for last year, as under:— Revenue MJWfiH Expenditure ...., £4,756,303 Surplus JE9.941 For the current year tho Treasurer estimated that the revenue and the expenditure would be as under:— Estimated revenue £4,837,817 Estimated expenditure ... £4,834,041 If the financial agreement between the Commonwealth Government and the States is ratified, tho States will, tho Treasurer points out, have a largely decreased income, necessitating a still firmer control of expenditure if new taxation is ,to be avoided; but if the present proepeots of Queensland continue, he has every confidence that the Government will be able to meet tho new conditions without financial inconvenience.
