PAHIATUA.

Yesterday. St. Matthew's Cricket Club (Mas-, terton) ■ journeyed to Mangatainoka, findsuffered dofeat by 23 runs. The wicket was fast, and the weather fine, but> threatening. Mangatainoka batted first, and put up 59, Crawford (22) and It. Williams (13) being top scorers. In their scr-ond innings l 'they compiled 81), I'earcey (29), Cos'tofe;i6), Crawford (13), and Williams (12) reaching double/ figures. St. Matthew's' made a good stand in their first ■innings. , scoring 86,-Wilkie (20), Mascelles (1G), Kingrlon (10), and Fielding (!)) batting well. Their second innings, however, proved disastrous, ';. only 29: runs being made. • Mascelles bowled well for the, visitors, taking' thirteen wickets for 28 runs.
