: "SEPARATE NATION" DIFFICULTY. A meeting of the Management Committe'e of, the N.Z. Lawn Tennis Association was held in the Phoenix Insurance Office last evening, Mr.Peacock presiding. There were also present: l Messrs.-'Hurler, Swanston, A. Young, Laishiey, Salmon, and Ch Goldie. Hon. 'secretary.. A long' lettet was received from tie, Lawn Tennis Association of Australasia pointing out the reasons why it is. considered that the formation of { a separate, council solely to govern, international 1 championships ~is impossible. After referring at ' length to, previous correspondence, 1 the letter pointed out that the only difference now existing between the two'bodies was the question .of: New. Zealand rejoining; the' Australasian .Association.' The -.Australasian body stated that they.,had laid,,the Jwhole history" of-the international, competition and. all •rules; relating', thereto;: before^/King's : counsel, and had' been • advised that the New' Zealand .Association'is .not entitled to interfere ;in any way with'the carrying out of the next international; championship:. to ,be held in Sydney ' next, month, or. to restrain, the:; Australasian Association. 1 from /conducting such contest, also; that , the New Zealand Association .'has no .right to restrain, the' Australasian 'Association from.' allowing -. B,ny New Zealand player to; take part in; such 'contest. . The.■ Australasian .Association has, also ■ been advised • that the withdrawal of Now Zealand does not.,take the rightof appro-, priation of the profits derived, from . past contests ;out" of the hands of the Australasian l Association. ; Should the New Zealand Association; still adhere 'to.'its; former,, decision, and continue the' application for the alteration of the regulations in order that New.Zealand may become; a/separate nation, : ' the' "Australasian Association will not.raise, any. objection;/'but will do all in its power'to hasten a consent on the part of\the.other "nations,' so that New Zealand may be. in;a position to challenge"for the 1910 contest. ■ Mr. Swahston.. moved that a resume of the negotiations between the . two., associations up to. the present be furnished to affiliated associations, and ; that , the committee recommend that' the New Zealand Association''rejoin the Australasian Association, provided a legal agreement, is dra\Vri tip to cover, three specific- points. Mr. Goldie moved , an' amendment that : -'aH the words'after,'"that" in the motion bo-de-leted, and .the" following substituted as, we cannot go, back on our; letter of ■ September 22, but,'rather.,than cause: further trouble, we are prepared to . declare a, ti-UiSe and agree that the.wWe' matter 'be' submitted to. arbitration. The amendment and the motion, were both lost. : i ■. Mr. Hurley then statid'that, ho would move at the next meeting that the New . Zealand ,Association'should send a"* representative;, to Australia to discuss the matter with the, association, there, with a view to arriving at a settlement. . ' '.; . ■ ' ' , The secretary, was instructed to point out to the (Dtago Association that the meetings of,the Management Committee ■ of the N.Z;L.T.A. are open to. the press. . , ; CANTERBURY V.OTAGO. :, ' ;(By.. Telegraph—Press Association.) t November. 8. • The lawn tennis match, Canterbury v. Otago, was played here to-day, and'resulted in a win for the former by ten matches to; eight, with one game unfinished. . - The , w&ather: was fine, with 'a strong, tricky wind, until, the last games were in. progress,, wheii: a heavy shower fell. Some very good, play,was.witnessed, and several of the' finishes .were very close. The results are as follow, names of Canterbury players, being given first) :— .
