EAST COAST RABBIT, BOARD.
■ —-—— ♦: ; SOME PROTESTS. .: The election of a Rabbit Board for soma of tile East C6ast districts seoms to have aroused some opposition; The. . Evening News" _ot Friday says:— ,r VVe received information this morning that a petition is in course, of preparation in the: coastal districts against the result of the Rabbit Board election, the grounds being that sufficient notice of the poll as required by the Act was not.given, with the result that tnis end of the district has no representative at all on the Board of. Trustees.It. is alleged, moreover, that hardly any of the votes actually cast on. the- coast would have been available but for the' fact that a candidate or candidates personally , canvassed : the electors by'circular 'Settler-' . in a. letter appearing in this morning's p'Herald,', and datod from : Dannovirlte, .enters a strong ; protest against tho conduct of tho; election, on another ground, viz., that thq polling booths wev'a too few and far between, and farmers were deterred from exorcising their.votes by.' the long distances thev would have had to travel for that purpose. That, in itself, would not invalidate the poll. Wo understand that a petition for an inquiry into tho election will be lodged in tho Magistrate's.Court, Napier, early next week, It would be very interesting to learn how many votes wero cast at end of the': district, particularly in tho inoro. romoto Coatt settlements, and also what is tho number of electors on tho roll."
