\ * MINING NOTES. ..'V' ? Dominion.—ln the Dominion Mine, Karanga. hake, the adit level is cow in 158 ft. A change or country has come Id, and on, Friday laßt a formation of brown-quartz and'' andesite inter-' mixed :sas.intersected. The.manager states that' this is 2ft. 6in. wide, and .that Bome'of.tho quartz;;has a. kindly appearanco, and carries bright ; mincral. Tho drive Is now in blue andesite. ■ .: ' v Golden Belt:—The manager .of tho Golden Belt Mine reports that the reef in the south drive at.jSo.il level is now about 3ft. wide, and the ore from here is being sent to, the mill. In' the stope opposite tho main crosscut at this level the reef Is about 6ft. wide, and gold can be seen in tho stone. This ore is also being sent to the mill. In .tho Bluffa section the prospects are,, the manager states, very encouraging. Ijast week 80oj, of amalgam wore obtained from the plates t.t the battery. Mountain King;—At the intermediate level the country .his; become milder, and there are still numerous mineral seams striking into tho footwall of the reef. Seven feet of the reef Is stripped roady.for taking down, and it has every appearance, of being a strong body of oro, as there is * strong flow of water issuing from the reef. This reef in the stopes shows strong colours of gold when taken down, , Tsiru a,. Monarch CoMolldated.—lis drive north on the m( la la TSfV The reef 14 the full width of the drive. It Is a nice kindly looking stone, rot so liar no values of note have been met with. • Ii» N6. 1 level, the reef is 2ft' wide, and the last Bample assayed showed, an improvement in' valucii. . In No. 2 level south, the reef is 3ft. 6in.,in thickness, and good dish prospects can be obtained." The hangingwall jbrtlon shows strong colours of gold In the stono. , Handsworth United.—A connection has been made with the winie between No. 2 and low levels, and a start made with the work of stripping tho No. 2 lead left In the wall as tie wlnse came down. Driving Is , also being continued in the soirth lace of the low levels, where the No. 1 and small leads will be carried along in the same fa«e for some distance. Early next week the ore mi hand, 401b. of specimen and picked stone and 35 tons of general dirt (nearly all from the winra), will bo treated. The crosscut to intersect Buntly's reef is in 29ft. New . Waltala.—The treatment of i tie 40-ton parcel of; ore: resulted in a return of 45ioi. mdted gold from, the plates, valued at about £141. Aa Boon as the'vat is filled, the battery wUI resnioe running on slimes lor tho rest of the week, and after that a trial parcel put through _ froxa■ .the big blow at-No. 5 level, whore the g«ld to-day appears better distributed through the stone than formerly, when It appeared confined to the edge. The btones north and south off the .north rise at tie intermediate l<v<sl are not producing'much quarts at present The resf is small, but prospects fairly. The contractors for driving the low level are penetrating g*id heady country, which is giving off a heavy Sow of water. "• r Missouri Mtires.-The coratry is still flm, andesite, and Improving In appearance. ' Tho roof is hearing snore to the wwt, and if continuing, will bring the junction to hand at an earlier .date. Tho quartz broken looks well and continues to show gold, but not of a payable value yet . ' -■ Talrua Broken Hiils.-Owine to the values in the "topes of No. 1 reef having, fallen off, and also tho. erratio values in the western reef tho battery manager- consldors it inadvisable to orush tho oro broken in the stopea. The batter* will bohmig up during the dry weathor whilc croßseuttinif .ls done for other runs of gold It .Is-.-proposed'to 'cut through a large reef lrinp to the wart of the western reef. Mils han already been poserated 40ft. withont reaohlni the hangingwall, and, as the values are Invarfably foundon -thp. hangingwall in this mine, it Is deomed , advisable to cut through to It. and drive on the same.:. In th« southern crosscut the flrstjclass country met: wiUitnd the attendant (Unties should augur well for the chances of picking up!,a run of gold on this reef, wMch. in addition to. itß largo .size, has backs up from four to five, hundred feet intact.. It Is also proposed to drive a erossout Intermediate from the No. t test iitoai. to tig im latoMot a run of.
gold : worked overhead in the footwall portion of a, very largo body of ore exposed in. tho east* sm crosscut level. Thoso workings aro, known as The Caves," and from thom in former times rich gold vff.fi' won.- This work,' ; together with fn ® OQ " n uation of the southern erosßtmt,. con. etltutcs, a comprehensive selieme for adlt*pro> fipeoting, which should, at a minimum coat, be of good results.
; Glamorgan.—The work In progress in the Gla« morgan Mine dnring the past week has been the advancing of the drive on the course of the J »t r ? towards the Herald ; section or tne company s proptrty, The country cncasins the reef is all that, could be desired for the-presence of valnes in the lode. It is much naraer than formerly, necessitating continuous blDßting. The reef is again increasing in size, • , ,W arenl '7 improving in values, as the blue sulphide streak is more pronounced as the drive « T *£ ce s into the higher country. A distanco: ioft has been cut out for the week,' making 6<Jt. from the entrance." In the'' Goldwater section the cleaning out of a winze sunk a few feet on.the reef below , the floor of the top level has been oompleted, and the winte sunk a few feet deeper. The reef there is folly 4ft. wide,, and so far carries a rieh vein of sulphide (or tellurium) ore on it? downward trend., A. sample of ore from this point, and also one from the .Silver Xisg section,,is being forwarded.
New S.Tlvia.—Operations have beon continued in end o? theF*w Sylvia Mine. The reef maintains a width of Bft., . and: regular samples •lit ■ * a ir ft Terago assay value the 1 whole width, while tests taken along the floor of the level show higher value.* underfoot. According to- instructions from visiting, directors, a rise will now be started to connect with the upper level, 100 ft. north of No.'l'riao.' Driving north will.also be continued, and carried on with three ohiftß as soon as the rise is sufficiently clear of the back of tho level to allow of tho two being. carriod on simultaneously.. Driving is bob*-carried on in the main crosscut«with ono shift, and a 9in. omrta vein was intersected during, the week at Mft. capf from main' reof.' A.*am»Mo n-isay proved-the existence of a certain value in silver, but oulv a trace -of gold. The manafcor is of opinion that this vein is a branch off the m.iin lode, and no doubt connects with, anothor lode-Iyim? furtlicr to the east. Four feet liQfi\been drivon through this yein, and a sccond small vein of the same character has been met with. < He had c&ramenefcd to sort out a parcel of mineral ore for shipment.-ng instructed.
