After two local Bills had been advanced a stage yesterday, the Legislative Council adjourned until to-day, out ot rospect to tho memory of tho late Mr. G. F. A. Richaidson, and-the late Mr. J. T. A. Kolling/Uo exmembers of the House, Throughout tho afterBoon and the evening the House discussed the Loan Bill,' tfhich' passed just before midnight Mr. r Herdman sought to introduce a ' clause providing foT the establishment of'an advisory committee, to whom all applications foT grants should be made, but the Chairman of Committees, ruled that the clause was foreign to the Bill. IJpon a division, an amendment by Mr. t James Allen that the item "for other public woTka' £400,QOO" should be reduced to £209,000, as a'pti'tyjt against the items not being detailed, by 42 votes to 22, the "Noes" including a few Government members. In connection with ,tho third reading of the Bill, l .a number of members, including Mr. Massey, Mr. Herdman, ,Mr. Allen, Mr. Herriesi'and Mt. T. E. 1 Taylor stated that wasteful extravagance had taken place in connection with public , works expenditure. The Prime Minister imparted a good deal of warmth at times into his roply to tho criticism which had been levelled at his administration. THE COUNCIL. LEAVE Of ABSENCE. The Legislative/ Council held a sitting jesterday afternoon. Leave of Bbsence for one week on account of sickness was granted to the Hon. Wi Pere. CONSOLIDATION OF STATUTES. f The-Hon. T.
