Tho managing director of the.Gas Company wrote stating that there was a great probability that an agreement ,vrill be entered into between the Wellington City Council, and the Gas Company, under which the council will withdraw its opposition to, and grant rights' for, the laying down and use of mains connecting the old city of Wellington through tho old Melrose ward with the company's property, at KingVßoad, Miramar. The letter pointed out that it is desired to carry the first main by way of Miraraar Quay to. a point adjacent to. section 41, and thence up a road reserve to. Old Farm Road, thence along Old Farm Eoad to. the boundary of the company's property at sections 5 and 6. As it was understood tno council had a scheme for lowering portion of Old Farm Road, through which it is proposed to lay the main, the Gas Company asked if there, was any prospect of this work being carried out, and'' urged that it' should bo started as early as possible, so that the company may bo' able to lay its main on a permanent level without fear of subsequent disturbance. The company stated that they would suggest that the first instalment of the work should bo the area lying between the company's works at King's Road northward-to Ono Street.. The Mayor' said the council had a special agreement with the Gas Company in reference to carrying , mains over tho Old Farm Road, and the question was where the council was going to ask the company. tq ; put its. mains. .The .council, must consider whether it was going.to improve the roads and let the Gas: Company, lay its mains later, or whether a minimum amount of, work only should be done before the mains are laid. It was decided to leave detailsin the above connection to the.Gas Committee of the council, with power to act. ■ Accounts amounting to .£335 16s. Id. werepassed for payment.
