THE NORTHERN ASSOCIATION.. ..'■' The annual meeting of the council of the ,Northern Bowling Association was held last evening in. the Wellington Club's paviKSff, and was attended by about thirty delegates. The hon.'secretary was voted an, honorarium of twenty-five guineas,' atid the hon. auditor an honorarium of three' guineas. . s -, • Subsequently, at an ordinary meeting of.the council, affiliation was granted, tp Mount Eden, Opunake, Onehunga, and Terrace End Clubs. A letter was received from Te Hiwi Club (Island Bay) applying for affiliation, and stating that one:of the conditions-of membership was that players should belong to another bowling club. It was hoped that younger players might be enabled to-take part in local pennant games. Mr. Blanchard moved that consideration of the application for'affiliation ■should be deforced for six .months.- Mr. T. Ballinger seconded the motion,- and deplored the establishing, of "mushroom" clubs. Mr. Hill spoke strongly in support of the applica: tion, and,. after discussion, it. was decided to grant it. ■ ':••■• ■ - ■'•• ■■■■-..',

Te Hiwi Club asked that its members might be allowed to represent the club in- Wellington Centre-engagements, and that,-as it was not proposed to hold any private'or interval games, members should not be • deprived 'of their rights in their original parent clubs. . After lengthy discussion, it was resolved, by 15 votes to 7, not to grant tho request. :< , ' Napier Bowling Club wrote protesting against the action of the association in carrying a resolution adopting the open-door scheme without having notified the, president of the club of.the necessity to attend.'- The association decided that the matter'could not be discussed again. ■ -' ,: ': : v /.- : An Entertainment Committee' for the tournament was. sot up to-consist of the president and secretary of.the association; with a representative from each of the city'clubs.' It was agreed that champion doubles should be included in the January tournament. The last.date for the receipt Of entries 'was fixed—Monday, December 20. '
