Barrier is usually a.fairly quiet placo,'and the incident is causing somo alarm, particularly as tho perpetrator is supposed to .be a dangerous character, who is at large-in'tho locality at prosent. The man in question left the house of a settler; taking with hjm' a riilo and ■ammunition, and he has not.eince been heard of. Search parties have been:out looking for him, and the constable at The' Barrier has telegraphed.to Auckland, for. assistance. ..-•■'
