TEACHERS' RAILWAY CONCESSIONS.
' MINISTERIAL UKASE DENOUNCED. ; (By Telceraph.—l'ress'ASßoclatlon.l Auckland, September 15. Tho decision of tho Minister for Railways to withdraw tho railway concessions nt presentgranted, to school touchers attending. training classes was discussed' .at to-day's meeting of tho Auckland Education Board. - The < notification from the Department. was to the effect that at the end of the present month the issue of free passes would cease. It would still-bo' open to the board to apply, for concessions for teachers attending conferences or special , classes. . ~ , Mr. F. C. Purdio said that ho considered the matter-a serious one. It was, in'fact,, an outrageous step to take. He - moved that a strong letter of protest be sent to the Minis- ' ter for Education and tho Minister for Railways. There were, he added, 102 teachers in tho Auckland district availing themselves of these concessions. . _ Mr. Edgecumbe, 'in. seconding tho motion,. said that it was a preposterous proposal on tho part of the Minister., One Department was doing all' it could for education, and the other was doing all it could'to nullify those efforts. Mr. Garland said'that tlioy never knew what to expect next,from tho Minister for Railways in his desire to make • the railways pay., It would be a grievous thing if this proposal was put into force. • 1 . The motion was carried.-
