The fifth round of the New Zealand Ladies' Championship Hockcy Tournament opened on the recreation ground to-day.-..in' perfect weather. The. weekly- half-holiday led :to a largo crowd of'spectators patronising the field of play. Tho principal'interest centred-round tho -Nelson and Hawke's Bay A teims, both, of. whom had an unbeaten:record.' ■ • ' ! Wellington' and Wangauui ' opened, the' day's, play iir a fast "and interesting-game. As the result of- some hard- play, in which . the right wing figured lirominently, , Miss Johnston' registered a score for Wellington.. Wanganui. made two. brilliant attacks, but were repelled-'on each occasion, and Miss' Keeling 6Cored a second goal for Wellington.' The eeoond spell- was delayed for" a time owing to Miss il'Donald (Wanganui)' getting a nasty blpw in the faoe with a stick. After reoeiving some attention she DtfEin took her place in the "field. Miss- Doues scored again ' for, Auckland, and tho first spel) ended with Taranaki aggres-sively-endeavouring to- equalise--matters.: -In the second .spell, alter a hot Taranaki charge, the Auckland ' forwards, broke away, and'-Miss • Probert scored a good goal. : Auckland lost several' chances' through-bad- shooting.
