OLYMPIA SKATING RINK.
, The Olympia Skating Rink presented a very gay soene yesterday evening, when a grand fancy dress and poster carnival was held. Only those who'were in fancy dress were allowed on the. floor,'and ,of these there were over three hundred, .so that the great crowd of spectators watched-the skating with much interest' all through the cv-ening. Many of tho costiimos were very ingenious and effective. A bottle of beer, who skated round cleverly enough, was very tall and top-heavy, but did not collapse. A loug-haired cowboy, who wore a complete leather costume'with fringed'edges and trimming of- lamb's wool, :and j a wide sombrero with silver cord, was a most picturesque figure, and it was interesting to hear that he had made tho costumo himself. Some of the poster costumes were excellent.. The prizes were won by Mrs. Ross-Stockton, who advertisod a certain coal in an effective costume of red and white with black trimming, and by Mr. Crockett, who, to represent Crescent brand tea, woro a crescentshaped head-piece. The prizes for the best fancy dress were tf on by Miss Burgess, as a model dressmaker, in a very striking dress covered with silver sequins, and by Mr. Martin, the cowboy. Mr. Snaddon, as Beggs' whisky, won the prize for the most original oosluinc, anad Mr. D. Morris was judged to be the most comical character. ■ The hoop race was won by. Miss B.
