A JOURNALIST'S CLAIM. (By TelcerapU.-Spcclal CorresDondcntl Palm'orston, August 24. At the Palmerston S.M. Court tin's morning, before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M.', evidence on behalf of plaintiff was given in the Christchurch caso of 11. G. Money v. Darnctt and Grant, proprietors of tho sporting paper "Daylight," of which plaintiff was editor. Tho claim was.for.£62 salary. Mr. 13. D. Hoben deposed that plaintiff was in his employ for about 18 months. Plaintiff had good opportunities of making himself a competent journalist. He had a good knowledge' of sport, especially of. racing matters. Witness considered that £4 a week was a reasonable salary for plaintiff to receive on an ordinary paper, but, on a sporting journal, ho thought that no should get more. Generally speaking, ho was n very capable writer, and would mate a most•• dapablo sub-editor. To Mr. Fitzherbert: City papers were on a more extorsive scale, and naturally devoted more spaoo- to sporting 'matters than country papers. ' Local papers, of courso', devoted more attention to local sporting affairs. Money had had little, experience before joining witness's paper, but ho mado extremely rapid progress, and the work.he had 'done in Palmerston would qualify him to take up the position ns p editor of "Daylight." Crossexamined, witness said that he .considered Money well worth the salary paid him. He was a naturally picturesque writer, and the best "interviewer" he had ever known.
