SLUMP IN THE SERVICE.
K return of tramways revenue and expendittfre for the four. Weeks ended July 31 was presented to.'last night's meoting of the City Council. The traffic revenue shows a fallingoff of £312 as compared with the corresponding period of last year, the principal decreases _in the. traffic, being on, the Island Bay and Newtown routes.. The net decrease of passengers carried amounted to 34,066. The revenuo from sale of current and sundry receipts shows- an increaso of £88," making the gross revenue from all sources £224 less than'last year. ■ The working expenses show an increase of £-M on last year's expenditure. The-gross revenue" to date amounts to £41,057, or £251 les3 than last year. The working expenses.to date amount to £28,678, or .£344 more than last year. After allowing for interest, sinking fund, and . estimated depreciation,' there is a debit balance to date of £36, as compared with a credit balance last year of £1030.
