HASTINGS NOTES.
(By - Telegraph-Special : Correspondent.) . Hastings, August 9. John Ryan, an old man about 60 years of age, - was out ploughing yesterday at Whakatu, and was shortly after found sitting on the ground dead. Dr. MacDomiel gave a certificate of death from heart' disease. Deceased was a farmer, and had resided over thirty years in tho district. V ' Shopkeepers in the boot and shoe business are signing a petition asking .to be allowed to'.keep their shops' open till 9.30 p.m. 'on Saturdays. .
