VESSEL SIGHTED—A GLEAM OF HOPE THEORIES OF DRIFT. THE ADMIRALTY ARRANGEMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Press. Association.—Oonyrluhl.t (Rec. August 10, 10.10 p.m.) London, August 10. An engineering expert wlio travelled from Australia to Durban by tho Waratah (now overdue from Durban to Capo Town) praises tho steamer and her machinery, and declares that the bunker ooal assured a maximum of steadiness. . It is stated , that a passengor named Sawyea' broke his journey at Durban under a presentiment of danger. 1 The oruissr Hermes is due at Cape Town to-morrow and will join in the search. The owners of the Waratah calculate that if she is disabled she' will have drifted towards Cape Agulhas, aud would then bo carried with the, current cast. - The Admiralty have ordered tho warships to search in accordance with this theory. i ' THE CUELPH. • REPORTED SIGHTING OF WAR.ATA IT. Lonticn, August 9. ..With regard to the reported sighting of the Waratah by the Guelph, the recogn'tion of tho Waratah rests on the third officer's reading of lantern flashes showing tho terminal letters "tah," which is supposed to mean "Waratah." ■ STILL HOPEFUL. London, August 9. "The Times" states that tho of. the Waratah are still hopeful of tho safety of the vessel. !. London, Later. ... Tho . owners of the Waratah have receiva] no news of the steamer. THE COAL CARGO, Sydney, August 10. • With reference to the cabled statement that the Waratah bad three hundred tons ot coal on -her bridge deck, the Sydney .agrnits of tho Lund Line state that there was' no. space on the bridge-deck to store coal. There was, however,. a plaoo underneath known as i the bridge-space,; which was used as a bunker hold. The vessel, carried coal in that com partment on her departure from Sydney. . London,' August 9. The Waratah took two thousand tons nt bunker coal from Durban. ■ TKE LATEST. IS IT THE MISSING STEAMER? (Rec. August 11, 0.30 a.m.) i, Durban, August 10., ; The Durban agents of. the Blue Anchor Line (the LuVid Line, owners of the AVaratali) have received a telegram .from ' .East London stating that a Blue Anchor - vessel has been'sighted a considerable distance off, : slowly making- for Durban, where' she will probably arrive to-day. " This suggests the possibility' that the vessel sighted, may'be the Waratah. . . VALUE'OF WIRELESS. AUSTRALiANNAyiGATION ; BILL. (R-ec.'August 11, -0.55 a.m.) ' Melbourne, August 10. 111 the House of Representative's, in reply to a question, Mr.. Groom, Minister for External ' Affairs, stated', that tho Navigation , Bill contained a clause-compelling vessels to -carry a wireless installation for tho purpose of giving early notice of mishaps.
