MORE ABOUT PLANS. In a letter from Dr. Frengley, District Health Office/, read at- the' meeting of tha WeEiiugton Hospital Trustees yesterday, tJiat officer said: —"I liavo the hono-ur,. in further reforonoe to . my. tetter of July 7 am us enclosures,, to inform Your trustees that at the statutory meeting neld on tlie 30tn ult., the following resolution was carried:—''That this-conference| is of the opinion thai the csrtrinia-ted oosfc of £17,000 for tbc orocfcicwi of building and equipment of a fover nospital for the treatment of 39 patients is excessive, and respectfully represent to tho Hospital Trustees tW desimliilaty of their reconsidering this estimate.', "In introducing tiio subject of the meeting, I expressed fhe view that my Departmenit was desirous that , tho expenso should be. if possible, reduced, and that I felt sure this was also the desire of your trustees. I have further to state: — "(1) That it is desirable that any amendment should bo made .in tho material ijl which plan No. 3—the administrative block —is to be built. ..
"(2) That, as your trustees were previously informed when the plans _ were under discussion, my Department will not decline to approve plans for treatment wards if tlie material decided upon be'wood, provided always that a sufficiently aseptic lining to the wards be scoured and maintained. "(8) That amended plaos will be approved, with the exclusion of plan No. 3—tlhe destructor block. > . "Tho delegates further resolved to adjourn their • meeting for tJireo wseks, that is, until Friday 20th inst. I' shall be glad to bo informed of your trustees' decision on or before that date." , After a discussion on tho letter ruin tho alternative plans, the following resolution was passed:— ' ■ . "That tho architects bo requested t-o confer with the Medical Superintendent nun the District Health Officer, wMi a view to drawing up plans of a scarlet fever ward on tho simplest lines of those already submittod by them 1 for the diphtheria ward.' but adopting snch means as best seems ■ advisable to ro duoo tho space to be occupied by bho block, and that an estimate bo pveai for block' in wood and also in brick, and submitted this day week, and' that Messrs. London, Kirk, and Danks, witli the chairman (Hon. C. M. Luke), bo.a oommittoo to confer with Drs. Frengley flwi H. Smith and tho aehiteots (Messrs. Cricihton and JfKay), with reference to the plans to bo submitted." A further meeting of, tho trustees in con- • nection with the above matter is to bo hold on Tuesday next.
