Napier, barrister,- of Auckland,, arrived in town hy tho Main Trunk oxpress yesterday afternoon. Tho Rev. James Kayll, Government Penologist, has commenced an inspcctkta of tho prisons in tho South Island. ' Captain Bono,, Marine Superintendent for tho Now Zealand Shipping Company, arrives here from tho south this morning. Mr. Ernest F. Luks, of tho : Auckland branch of the Survey Department, loaves for England by tho Athenic on Thursday. Word was received in town yesterday of. tho death of Mrs. Bennett, wife of the Rov. F. A. Bennett, of Rotorua. The deceased ■ lady was well known and very popular with, tourists who have visited the district. Mr. W. G. Hunter has been elected to re-, present tho South Ward on. the Education Board, the voting being as follows:—Mr. W. o.. Hunter, 80; Canou Eccles, 54; Mr.,D. Wilson, 45.—Press Association. The Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Internal Affairs, will visit Oxford oil August 18 for.' the purpose of hearing deputations on local' matters. Mr. Robertson leaves for Wanganui this morning. '■ A Press Association telegram from HaWern reoords the death yesterday morning of Mr. Andrew Turnbull, Stipendiary Magistrate, aged 63. Mr. Turnbull was appointed magistrate at Hawera in 1904, prior te which ho had hold (since 1891) tho position of S:M." at Napier. As long ago aB 1872 ho was Dis- | trict Land Registrar at Nelson; later ho was in the Lands Registry Office in this city,and _ in 1879 became Registrar, of the Supreme Court at Nelson, a position, lie retained till his appointment to tho Bench. For some time 'beforo his death Mr. Turnbull had been in bad health.
