LANDOWNERS.
MR. LLOYD-GEORGE ON STEWARDSHIP A DUKE'S REPLY. TALK OP LEGAL PROCEEDINGS. (By Tclcgranli.-Press Assoclatlon.-OopyrißUt.l (Rec. August 6, 10.30 p.m.) London, August 6. In Mr. Lloyd-George's speech' at Limehouse—in which lie referred to' landownership as stewardship, and stated that tenure conditions must he considered unless landlords discharged their • duties—ho gave instances of landowners' selfishness. These have been strongly contradicted in the specific cases mentioned. The.Duke of Westminster, in reply to several correspondents, who urged him to prosecute Mr. Lloyd-Qeorge for mis-statements, declares that, considering, the personal idiosyncrasies of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the best defence is to' trust in the fairness and sense of decency still inherent in the community.
