Iho store and' its contents were'completely destroyed, but the adjoining hotel' was saved by the effort* of, the brigade. Tho stock, valued £2000 or £2500, was insured for only: tBUU. Tlie building belonged to Mr. M'Cprmicls hotelkeeper; the insurance is not available

The dwelling was the'property,oj Mr. Georgo E. Tolhurst, and was occupied by Mr., James, Murdoch, fruiterer, of Cuba .'■ Street. There Were three people in the house ' at the time of'the'outbreak, Mr. alia Mrs. , Murdoch and a child, all of whom retired to bed at about 11.30 on Saturday-night.
