A HEROIC ACT.
HOW A MINER SAVED HIS MATE. (By Telegraph-Press Association -Copyright.) - ' Melbourne, July 17. A sensational accident occurred in the Consolidated Mine at Bendigo, and a heroic act was witnessed. ' Throe miners—Davis, Darcy, and Allen— were engaged in sinking a shaft. Two shotß were put in, and the men ascended to tho plat above. ' As Allen reached tho plat he missed his footing, and fell to the bottom Instantly Davis rushed down tho laddor, despite the fact that "tho charges were due to explddo at any moment'. Ho found Allen, and had dragged him about five feet nhen tho first charge exploded. The debris, however, carricdrin an opposite direction. Davis then endeavoured to get Allen into a safo place before the second charge exploded, i > After the' explosion ( took place relief was sent down, and both mon wore fpund alivo. Allen had a broken log,' but both were unhurt'bv'the blast. ■ '
