In tho House of Lords an animated debate aroso on Lord Gorcll's motion, in favour of cheaper Divorce Courta in tho interests of the poorer classes. Lord Gorell (formerly Sir John Gorell Barnes, of tho Divorce Court) incidentally remarked that if tho drink practice could bo abolished the Divorce Court might close its doors. The Archbishop of Canterbury strongly opposed tho motion. ( The Marquis of Lamsdown* (Unionist Leader) supported a suggestion by Lords Halifax,and Loreburn (Lord Chancellor) as to tho desirability of the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the .whole subject, including, as Lord' LoTebiim rft- , marked, tho publication of "a mass of dirty stuff" in some newspapers. Lord Goroll withdrew his motion.
