In regard to the circular sent out to clubs suggesting that, in future tournaments, competitors should be asked, to pay an extra foe of 10s. each, the secretary (Mr. J. H. Mentiplay) said that 37 replies had been received Twelve, clubs had not answered. Thirty-four of the clubs.had oppressed'themselves in favour.Of the proposals of the association: The reply from the Newtown Club was indefinite A letter was read from the secretary of tho Auckland Bowling Association, stating that a conference of delegates representing Auckland and suburban clubs had been held on January 11 last. At this conference it had been decided to congratulate tho Northern Bowling Association on tho steps taken to moot tho views of Auckland bowlers. It had been remarked at the meeting that the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association was not recognised as it should be by tho t Northern Bowling Association. The suggestion was also made that all future tournaments held in Auckland should bo conducted by tho i Auckland Provincial Association, under tho direction of the Northern Bowling Association Tho secretary said that he had appoaled in all things to the Auckland Association. Programmes of tho last tournament had been submitted to that association. On tho motion of Mr. T. Balhnger, seconded by Mr James llussoll, it was decided that competitors in tournaments should be required to pay an extra fee of 10s. for entertainment purposes, in addition to the entrance fee of 2s. 6d. ( "OPEN-DOOR" VIEWS. Karon and New town Clubs wroto doclaring themsohos ltl favour of tlie "Open-door" policy. Tho Wellington Club urged that, tho North Island should bo divided into centres, and that all clubs in tho Dominion should be brought under one conti oiling body. Thorndon Club agreed to tho proposal to increaso the ice cbargeablo to competitors in tournaments to 12s. 6d., and recommended that all prizes should be abolished and certificates substituted. A proposal was made by Mr. T. Ballingor that a circular in regard to tho " open-door " policy bo sent out to all clubs. Mr. A. F. Allen seconded the motion, and stated, as delegate of tho Masterton Club, that his club desired to adhere to the twonnk principle. The secretary said that if circulars woro sent out replies woold not bo received in time to decide upon tho working of tho coming tournaments. Mr. A Campbell (Newtown) moved as an amendment: "That tho present two-rink s>stoin bo abolished, and, in lieu thereof, that the number of entries be unlimited; also, that tho champion fours be abolished, and a general tournament substituted, to be held in Wellington and Auckland overy alternate year." Tho present eystom, ho said, tended to make bowling a closo corporation in tho North Island. Ho knew that if tho twonnk system were continued, five or six of tho No*town team would be men who had taken part in tournaments four joars ago. It had been said that tho smaller clubs would not have opportunities; however, ho contended that the "open-door" policy would make" it possible for tho country clubs to enter ouo good team, instead of two rinks. Mr. W. Hueston (Victoria) seconded pro forma. Ho disagieed with tho amendment. As to writing to the clubs, he had asked for the opinion of his club, and was still waiting for it. Mr. John Smith (Greytown) said that he, too, had written to his club oil tho matter, but ho had not heard from them. Personally he favoured tho "open-door" policy. Mr. T Bush said that local bowlers had decided on tho action to bo taken, but tho 42 other clubs had not yet been educated up to a proper view of the question It would be quito a mistake, he considered, to expect answers from tho clubs to bo in by August 20 A comprehensive circular should bo sent out bj the association, and when the annual I tournament was held a meeting of represenI tative bowlors should be hold, and the matter decided finally by tho association. When tho clubs wore well informed on the proposed sjstem, the "open-door" policy would certainlj be adopted. It was not desirable to mako a change before the next tournament: Mr G Dkon said that the matter had been broached parly in tho season, and it could easily be deoidod this year. A circular should be sent out in the meantime, with a view to having the question decided in August. ' Mr. T. Ballinger urged that the "opendoor system had not been a success in the south The southerners played 16 heads and had a timo limit, in tho north they played 21 heads without any htriit In tho south they had rmk matohes, but tho association wanted club matches. Members pointed out that this was an entirely new matter, and ought not to be discussed without notice of motion having been given to delegates. The chairman held that tho debate was not in order The Motion and the amendment were then witMrnwn. Mr J. C M'Kcrrow moved. "That a meeting be held on August 20, foi the oUlpuse of considering the system of play to bo adopted at tho next tournament " itiis was seconded by Mr T. L Churchward, and carried Notice of motion was then given by Mr. A. Campbell, on the lines of Ins amondment' Mr J J. Rotarts gave notice to movo, at the August meeting) at the tournament to be held m Wellington m January 1910, clubs may enter ono or nioro rinks as tnoy tee fit. , 1910 TOURNAMENT.
