The'companies concerned iri:the.Thames deep levels scheme have depided to accept the limited !• subsidy■'6iV#Bsooo offered by tho Goyernment 'to-, awards .-that/'undertaldng, and to .proceed' with -the'wdrk as soon as possible; A.'special meet : .■ing/'.of : the*':-representatives'-' of 'five companies interested:,in."the matter was held/this afternoon,.'.: There .were present: -'Messrs! (Saxon- Gold ■ Mining /Co.), in the chair, C. Hudson (Waiotahi Gold Alining Co.), J, Thornes (May' Queen, Gold /Mining Col),- Greaves Aiokrn (Victona'-'-'GoId Mining Co.), and H. Green (Kuiianuv Caledonian. Gold "Mining-Co.). After the -position, 'and'the' question/of the.subsidy,'the following resolutions ■weretunanitnously adopted:—. v. ;'; : ; ;. , :.• -•v(l) "ThatHhe :o£fer of the Government of the subsidy, of '.£SOOO towards, the;main;crosscut be accepted, subject to the Government's , conditions being acceptable, and. that the companies interested agree to pay their contributions of .£2OOO each' to the central committee when , the same is duly constituted"; (2) "That the Goveriunentjbe .asked to/set, up' a 'board, to ■ carry such!, board consisting of'.'one'membor" from each.;of" the contributing companies, and two members'representing the Government, also such board to.have full legal powers to receive'the.various contributions, to let contracts,'.and .disburse moneys on account of.-same'';" (3) "That as the cost of'.work will in' all probability exceed' the .funds provided, namely .£15,000, the. companies signing the agreement pledge themselves to pay (if found necessary) '■, such further sum in-equal proportions as would ; assure the proposed work being completed"; (4) "Further that; -if the companies are called upon, to pay" this the Government ;be, asked to give a £ for on-such, further ;sum..
