A BATTLE OF ROUTES, (By Tcleeraph.-Spccial Correspondent.) ! Auckland, July 11. Auckland is promised another battlo of tho > routes, for whiclf kind of thing it is famous. The decision of the Government to put the North of Auckland railway tbrough on tho western route instead of on tho eastern Bide of tho peninsula is arousing strong indignation among partisans of tlio eastern route. Yesterday a strong deputation waited upon Mr. Bart chairman, of tho Auckland Chamber of( to discußs the question of holding a public meeting of all t&ose interested in the matter. Mr. Eoat informed a "Herald" reprcsentatire that ho'bad been 1 , asked ftp preside, and, would probably jfo. so ' ' if the meeting were gone on with. "But of course,", said Mr. Kent, "tho chamber twill not,bo pledged to cither one routa or ■tho other; it must hold tho scales of justice equally for everyone. Still the ohamber can, and will give these gentlemen an opportunity of laying be/oro a public mooting their masons fdr the strong feeling of injustice under whioh they are'lauouring."
