The schedule of demands for the ' proposed new award include the following:—The hours of labour shall be 44 per weok, commencing at 8 a.m. and finishing at 5 p.m., with ono hour for dinner; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. During May, Juno, July, and August, the hours may be fixed by >mntual arrangement between the employer and his employees between 7.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., except Saturdays, when the hours shall be from 8 a.m. till noon., All journeymen carpenters -or carpenters and joiners shall be paid not lees than ,'ls. 6d. , per hour. On all outside jobs the man responsible for carrying out, the'.work—who has charge of plans and gives instructions to other men—shall bo paid an additional Is. per day. Except iq respect of stair-building, no carpenter or joiner shall be paid by piece-work. Overtime rates shall bo:—First -two hours, time'and a half; after first two hours; until 8 o'clock next morning, double time. If men shall bo required to start work at any timo,bo- > fore 8 a.m., such work shall be paid for at time and a half. Work done on New Year's Day ; Good Fridav, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or Sundays, shall be paidfor at double rates. Provision is made for tho,issue of permits to workmen who are unable to earn the minimum wage, for the keeping ,of an employment book, and a wages boot, for 'the payment of workmen while travelling to their work, and for preference to unionists.On .all jobs' whoro four or more carpenters are„employed, tho employer shall provide grindstone and saw clamps.
