Country corrcapondents report thai very largo quantities of timber are lying in. the creeks awaiting freshes, and for i some time millora have beon unablo to got any goodsized rafte.. It is stated that in ono crook flowing ■ into the Northern Wairoa River, there aro 4,000,000 ft. of kaori lying idle. It is also reported that the Kauri Timber Company has, in various creeks in the Northern Wairoa district, 800,000 ft. more timber tban at any one time during the-past oight years. A representative of the Kauri Timber Company, seen by a "Herald" representative, endorsed these statements, but said no serious shortage was feared, and, though at present some inconvenience was being caused, the timber was coming down in sufficient quantities to enable thorn to fulfil their orders. ■ Tho rain on Monday last caused a fresh in the Oamaru and Mongonui Creeks, where a large number of men are busy rafting logs down to tidal water,. Tho bulk of this timber, comes from tho Kauri Timber Company's bush, at Forty Aero, and will be cut at Tβ Kopuru nrill.
