Unsound stock and Dairy Regulations.
Alii stock, especially dairy stock,; should be inspected by veterinarians periodically, and diseased animals destroyed; Government to pay half value. (Auckland.) ? * , Dairy.herds should be more frequently inspected by ; veterinarians. (Taranaki.) Sale of' unsound dairy bulls and coirs should bo prevented. (Taranaki.) . ' . Victorian scheme of granting • certiflcates for'stallions found free from hereditary disease should, be adopted. (Wellington.) : ;, ■Protesting, .against a , cow tax... (WeumgAuckland, submits. the. following:— •', ■' .; ; "That , this conference- adopt tho■ following report (submitted .by,' a committee appointed by the Auckland provincial conference; adopted, and ottered to be forwarded to,the Dominion Conference):—We approve of the principle of inspection, but consider -.that some distinction should'be made between dairies from which the. milk '.is used for direct human consumption, .and dairies from which the milk is used for tho' manufacture of butter and cheese only. In the _ former 'case we consider" that, the ..proposed regulations (subject to tho amendments recommended) ■ should be carried out' in their entirety, but in the latter we consider that it would be impossible 'fdr all dairymen coming under this'heading to liaye premises that the'inspector could' register under this Act. We "suggest that section 2-(sub-clause 1) be altered as follows tho.words , 'every, dairyman, read; 'who is. supplying milk for direct hunian. consumption,'.' and that a subclause should bo added, reading as follows :— 'Every dairy, not included : in< clajiso two, 1; : shall .be inspected "by'an •'ini specW. at .least once a year. , ..Section'B; clause A:'We consider that the air-space of 600- cubic feet, as provided , for,' is: excessive, and that.4oo-cubic feet is ample. .We.consider'.that .clause 1, section- 8,; regarding yards and races, should not be made applicable, to dairiesj- the. milk from which, is used for' the ' manufacture of butter, and' cheese only, ■ sub-clause 4 covering this. Clause 13, h.c., regarding cooling milk: Wo consider that this clause should only be enforced whoro the: milk is used for direct human consumption.
