JERSEY CATTLE BREEDERS.

ANNUAL MEETING. An annual meeting of the New Zealand Jersey Cattlo Breeders' Association was held on the Manawatu Show Ground on Thursday. Mr. J. A. M'Croa. (president) in the chair. • '> The report road by the secretary (Mr. J. C. Lano) stated that his Excellency Lord Plunkct had accepted tho patronship of the association. A list of judges had been compiled, and sent out for the guidance of vari-' ous associations. Tho question of keeping a record of milk tests had been considered in several forms, and it had been resolved to support a scheme similar to that of tho Manawatu A. and P. Association 'as follows:— ."', That a register bo kept in the Herd Book of all registered Jersey cows cap- . able of showing not less than 121b. of butter fat, or making not less than 141b. of butter per week, under the following .conditions:—A public test, undertaken by • the_ Department of Agriculture's dairy division, of not less than four days, and under the system of tho Manawatu " A. and P. Association,, the results to bo . averaged for the full seven days on tho basis of such a test. Tho council would give a prize of £5 and gold medal to the registered cow (or £5 to tho cow by a , registered bull) • showing the best re/Championship medals'for 1908 were presented to the Auckland Show, and similar medals, for 1909 had been presented to Taranaki; a'condition being that the judge must be from the ."official' list, and that all the animals competing must .bo registered. Volume;'.6of -the Herd Book had been issued. SaJo .■ transfer and . export certificates' were now* issued on request. Tho question of affiliating with the American Jersey. Cattlo Club (whichi would enable registered stock to bo exported there free of considerable duty) was under consideration., Tho funds showed a surplus:'of £203 13s. lOd. over liabilities. Fifteen new members mitted,during the year. .-■>■.'■• . In proposing the adoption of tho roport, tho chairman suggested tho issuo of; an illustrated booklet on the Jersey breed in New "Zealand. Herd -Book recommendations wcre.accepted as follow':—"(a): .That, all deaths or sale transfers rcccivcd'.within 60,davs of the date .bo recorded free, and that, afterwards, tho chargo bo 2s. Cd. for members;'(b) that no transfers or; registrations of descendants, etc., be accopte'dfor record unless the vendor is financial with the association." Where animals are entered in the Herd Book, aid • subsequently. transferred, .it.'is recommended that tho transfer to the!now owner-bo recorded if the animal bo reqnired for pedigree puroqses in ontcring progeny.' 1 '.■>■■ • , The council suggested :—"That the' annual, moating in future bo peripatetic as to locale' the placo to' bo decided at tho provious annual meeting, and. the local committee at the place selected to make arrangements, for the visit.'.': 1 It .was. urged by- supporters of this proposal that insufficient time was available for the meeting during the Manawatu show; and ;that changes of placo of mooting would popularise ;tho breed.
