1 WESLEY LITERARY AKD DEBATING SOCIETY. ' '' .Miss May Harvey provided the programme at the elocutionary, recital given last night * funds of the Wesley Literary and Debating Society, and it was a very bright k entertainment. Misa Pringlc, "who acted as accompanist during the evening,' played a pianoforte solo, and one of the most successful items of the evening was Mr. E. J. Hill's rendering of a song which he had to repeat as an oncore. Mr. Hugh Wright sang', two, songs, both,..of, which, were/;enthusiastically encored,, and'. Mr. ;c;: J. Hill gave two. ' charming flute, solos'... Sevoral of - Miss Harvey's pnpila recited;- -Miss Flossie' Dix was encored for her recitation "Old 'Ace," and, as ail encore for his recitatiou of ''Amen Corner," . Mr. M'xntyre • gave '"A Guid Scotch Nicht." Miss M. Dix gave a musical .monologue, with an amusing recitation as encore. The greater part of tho entertainment -was given by Miss May Harvey, whoso choice ranged from "The Chariot Race m Ben Hnr to an amusing comedietta.' As a first -encore' she gave tiic pathetic poem, "I'm Just Wearying for You," with musical acoDipanimeirt, and -then James pitcomb Rileys- "Good-bye,. Ood Bless You. This was followed by a very amusing account of Hamlet," as seen, by a country girl, -and for an encore Miss Harvey gave the very unpleasant "Reverie in Church." A comedietta, "Only Amateurs/' was acted in "" ®®l! s,n 6 manner by Miss Harvey and Mr. C. MTntyre, entirely to tho satisfaction of the audience. .
SOCIAL AT MITCHELLTOWN. _ £ _very enjoyablo social was hold, in the iUitchelltown School on Wednesday night in art of funds fo rtho Polhili Football Club, who intend to crect n gymnasitun in tho locality. Mr. David Skinner, president of the' club, explained the object'of the social. Songs and instrumental solos wero given by j i Hicks (song), Keys (song), 1 trombone duet Messrs. Donaldson and Murray; recitatiOTi, "Bill Adams and Waterloo," Mr. Hicks; conjuring tricks by Professor T. H Driver; violin solo, Miss M'Lachlan; recitation, Mr. D. Skinner. ■. The accompanists* wero Miss Bvensen and Mr. E. King. Danoe music was supplied by Mr. E. King. '
