VICTORIA COLLEGE.

MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. The Victoria College Council, met at the Col« lege last night Present:—Messrs. J. Graham, M.P. (in tho chair), H. F. von Haast; W. H. Quick, C. Watson, H. H. Ostlor, E. D. Belli T. R. Fleming, and Dr. C. P. Knight. Lieutonant Shackleton wrote from Adelaide to acknowledge tho thanks of tho council for the assistance to the collego gymnasium fund through his lecture. T., Boycc asked to have the third yoar'a benefits of his senior Queen's scholarship postponed until 1910, on account of eye-trouble. Tho matter was referred to tho Minister for Education.

Tho Students' Association wrote asking tho council to apply to tho City Council for a general permission to students of tho college to uso Kelburno Park at any timo when not required for any special purpose. Mr. von Hoast supported tho proposal, and moved in the direction of appointing a'committer, consisting of tho chairman, Dr. Knight, Mr. Ostler, and the mover, to confer with tho citv authorities in tho matter.—Tho resolution was carried. — It was suggested that the fees in certain subjects should be raised, but Mr. Watson said that when tho Government was last doputationised for a grant, members of tho council mentioned the luwness of the feos as a reason why assistanco should be given. Ho, therefore,. felt bound to oppose any motion to increase fees. It, was resolved to mako fees- , for. certain new classes the same as thoso charged for other classs. The chairman reported that Dr. Bell, direc-. tor-of.; tho geological survey, was very willing to assist tho conuoil by supplying geological specimens, but it,was first of all necessary to have a proper geological museum. Tho commitlco already appointed was instructed to approach tho Government in tho matter of a geological museum.
